Why should I dedicate my child?
At Mosaic we are deliberate at creating an environment in which your child feels comfortable and loved. Jesus paid special attention to children, "People were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do no hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." (Mark 10:13-14)
Children are gifts from God. Our time of intense influence in the lives of our kids is limited. This is why it is so important to recognize early that they are first and foremost God's children. This is what child dedication is about. In a sense, we give them back to the One who gave them life. We are saying that what matters most to us is that they are connected to their Heavenly Father.
In the Bible, we have many examples of parents who dedicated their children to God. From Samuel in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 1:27-28) to Jesus Christ in the Gospels (Luke 2:21-22), this has been the pattern for people of faith. Dedications of our children is a statement of trust in God - that His plan and purposes for them are more important than anything else. Dedication of children to God is an important step for our kids and for us as parents. It shows them that we value their relationship with the Creator, and it reminds us that our influence is limited and temporary.
