The Story of Jesus

The Bible is the story of Jesus.  It was written by men who were inspired by God.  In essence it is God speaking.  As we read God's words, we begin to see how God thinks, how He acts, how He loves us and how He wants us to live.  Setting aside a daily devotional time, (time devoted to bible study) is like setting a daily appointment to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn directly from Him.  This daily devotion time re-patterns the way we think and ultimately the way we act.  This time of daily relationship with God transforms our mind, then when we face similar situations as Jesus did, we begin to respond in the same way.

As we read God's words, we begin to see how God responds to things. Doing daily devotions re-patterns the way we think and transforms the spirit of the mind. Then when we face similar situations as Jesus did, we begin to respond in the same way.

At Mosaic, we use the S.O.A.P. method.

"S" is for Scripture
Open your Bible to the reading. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal.

"O" is for Observation
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words, in your journal.

"A" is for Application
Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.

"P" is for Prayer
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.

How to use this Bible Reading Plan

There are 3 steps to this plan:

Step 1: New Testament Daily

The daily reading is made up of both Old Testament and New Testament  sections.  In New Testament Daily you read only the right or New Testament section.  If you are new to the Bible or to Bible reading, this is a great first step to take.

Step 2: New Testament plus Proverbs

In addition to the New Testament Daily, you can add the Book of Proverbs.  The Book of Proverbs is the ultimate collection of Godly wisdom.  There are 31 chapters in Proverbs and 31 days in a month so if you read one Proverb a day, you can read through it each month.

Step 3: Through the Bible in 1 year

If you read both the Old Testament and New Testament sections each day, you will read through the entire bible in one year.  This is an excellent second step as you grow in your Bible reading and in your walk with God.
